A Powerful Curriculum Combination

  • Cambridge Curriculum
    • The Cambridge Curriculum focuses on building strong academic fundamentals. It develops students’ critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and independent learning skills – setting them up for long-term success.
  • International Primary Curriculum (IPC)
    • The IPC is inquiry-based and highly engaging. Learning is brought to life through hands-on activities, collaboration, and exploration of real-world themes. Students don’t just learn what, they learn why and how.

Together, these curricula nurture knowledge, skills, and attitudes that help students to thrive academically and socially in a global landscape.

In IPC, each Unit follows the same ‘Process to facilitate Learning’:

  • The Entry Point: a hook to motivate the learning, spark interest and inspire.
  • The Knowledge Harvest: Finds out what the learners already know, informs planning and is a working document of learning.
  • Explaining the Theme: Gives learners the ‘big picture’ of their learning. It is shared with parents at the start of a unit to help support the learning at home, and contribute to the learning experience of our learners at school.
  • Research, Recording and Reflecting: Learning activities of Knowledge, Skills and Understanding that focus on the Subject Learning Goals.
  • The Exit Point: Summarises the learning from the unit and ties it together. It celebrates the learning that has taken place.

There are three types of Subject Learning Goals which serve as the foundation of IPC:

  • Knowledge: What students know (what, when, who, where, which)
  • Skills: What students can do (what, how)
  • Understanding: What students can explain (how and why)

There are eight identified attributes (IPC Personal Learning Goals) that should be fostered and nurtured in all learners and the development of each of them leads to improving learning. We call these our ‘Personal Values’ and we all aim to be resilient, thinkers, ethical, empathetic, collaborators, communicators, adaptable and respectful.

The IPC’s International Learning Goals help our students begin the move towards an increasingly sophisticated national, international, global and intercultural perspective and develop a sense of ‘international mindedness’ and global competence.

We define International Mindedness as a ‘Ripples Mindset’ that develops an understanding of the Self and the world around it; embraces similarities and differences in ever increasing circles; respects other perspectives; inspires to take purposeful action; expands awareness beyond ourselves; producing global citizens that contribute positively to the world.
